Chapter 6 of Freedom to SHIFT. For the people who could always out-work it, until they couldn't.
July 4, 2022 was my Independence Day.
I sat in my doctor's office and told him I couldn't stop eating. Nothing dramatic showed up. Just the high cholesterol I'd been promising to fix myself for over a decade.
He said what they all say: eat less, move more.
Here's what made me cry. I knew that. I'm a certified sports nutritionist, a triathlon coach, a life coach, and an athletic trainer. I've helped other people do this for thirty years. I'm a doctor, for Pete's sake.
Maybe your version is food. Maybe it's the calendar, or the inbox, or the fact that you used to be able to out-work anything and now you can't. It's the same machinery. When the body is running on empty, willpower goes first and effort goes second, and you're left staring at strategies that worked brilliantly right up until the day they stopped.
This is the chapter where I tell you what happened next, and why it had nothing to do with trying harder.
